All Time Handle Record Set

History was made this afternoon at Monticello Raceway as a new record was set for the most money ever wagered on one race, in today’s 5th race (3/3/22) $126,851 was wagered, eclipsing the old mark of $126,583 set in January 2014. Total handle for the days 9 race card was $704,649.53 with an impressive average per race of $78,222, In fact there were a total of 2 races that handled over $100,00, $109,800 was wagered in race 4.

Jim Doherty Jr. had back to back training wins, first with Woodmere Rondevous (Bruce Aldrich Jr.) who scored in 2:00.2 and earned his first seasonal win. Kyle Dibenedetto was content to sit back and watch the early action as Statement blasted away from the gate with Frederic Bourgault to get the lead briefly, in a quick retake before the quarter pole SB Mikes Hot Beach with Jim Taggart Jr were back on top and cut the mile until the top of the lane were Statement retook the lead and appeared to be a winner until Kyle Dibenedetto ruined the parade and snuck in aboard Spicey P in 2:00.2 $5.30.

Team Sowers won 2 on the afternoon, starting off in the first race with a wire to wire score with Grannys Girl 2:00 – $8.60, next up was Rocks Fantasy who scored in a commanding 8 romp in 2:00.2-$3.70, giving father and son, Bo and McGwire training and driving doubles.
