Barnabas turns back Iammrbrightside N in the Open

May 23, 2023

On paper, it was a tough race to handicap, this week Seeuinnashville A who usually sets the tempo opted to take back and race from behind.  Iammrbrightside N who normally races from behind decided to cut the mile with Brandon Parker aboard, reeling off splits of 28, 57.2 1:25.3 with Barnabas enjoying the view from the garden spot.  Turning for home, Iammrbrightside N had two lengths on his contemporaries, but it was not enough to hold off the Dan Gill trained Barnabas who won by 2 lengths in 1:54 over Iammrbrightside N.  The win was a seasons record for the winner and his fifth win on the year. The winner of last week’s Open Send It In Jerome (Taggart Jr.) finished third, the heavy favorite Ohio Vantage didn’t fire and finished last.

The afternoon’s third race was declared a No Contest when Cheers For Chips with Justin Huckabone in the bike became rough gaited before the start.  As the gate left Cheers For Chips was locked on the left line and was heading for the infield before she became twisted around and went down in the passing lane, thankfully both driver and horse walked away with a only a few scratches.

He’s Special (Mike Merton) notched win # 9 on the year after a 3 length win in 1:54.4 for trainer Todd Buter.  My B Pandemic finally recorded her first lifetime win after 19 unsuccessful tries for trainer Frank Yanoti, this afternoon the American Ideal sophomore scored in 2:01:2.

The game Admiral visited the winner circle this afternoon after a 3 deep trip from the paddock turn in 1:56.2. ironically he won on the exact same date 2 years ago.
